Below is a summary of Waid Environmental's Environmental Management Information Systems Services:

  • Automation of data collection, validation, reduction, and reporting
  • Automation of compliance monitoring procedures
  • Integration of environmental management systems with other business systems
  • Implementation and development of commercial and custom database and management system
  • Implementation of corporate environmental policies and practices

As environmental regulations continue to change, finding ways to deal with them on a tightening budget becomes harder. Trying to meet regulatory requirements by adding staff or consultants alone just does not work. Automation looks extremely promising, but computer projects can be as complex as the regulations and you need experience with both to make the project work.

At Waid Environmental, our experience in environmental regulation gives us a strong background for working with you to clearly define the problem. Our years in the business give us the experience to help find the best solution for you. This broad engineering strength works hand in hand with our software development and computer capabilities. Coordination between these two disciplines gives us not only a clear understanding of your needs, but the capacity to implement a workable system that effectively addresses your problem.

We develop systems that integrate with plant information systems and databases from other departments, validate and reduce data as allowed by applicable regulations, and create reports consistent with agency expectations. We have automated compliance monitoring procedures with software for scheduling regular data operations and reports, and software for automated incident reporting. We can integrate with other business functions such as inventory and purchasing. With state-of-the-art tools and techniques, we use a step-wise implementation approach that reduces initial cost and risk while providing early benefits. By integrating off-the-shelf software components to the fullest extent practical, we can provide a single source of support for a complete solution.

You need solutions that take advantage of the data and procedures you already have for maximum benefit. You want a solution that minimizes cost and disruption to your existing processes. By integrating our engineering and software expertise with your knowledge and existing systems, we can build a comprehensive, long-lasting solution to your environmental problems.

In addition to broad engineering capabilities, Waid Environmental provides services for automating the data collection, calculation and reporting tasks typically required to achieve regulatory compliance. Our focus is on integrating with existing systems to give you visible results quickly without disrupting functioning processes.

  • ACS
The Air Compliance System is an environmental management system that is designed to streamline day-to-day compliance all via the Internet and/or Intranet. ACS is centered around an Oracle database. Data is accessed using a web-based interface. The ACS can be broken down into two basic modules: an incident system and emissions system.

The incident system allows an operator to enter an incident (for example, an upset). The system determines if the event is reportable upon submission. Once the incident is created, the appropriate supervisors are notified via email. Review of the incident is required and verified via an electronic signature. The system is also designed to produce a report of the event and/or events.

The emissions system is capable of collecting data from a data historian, lab information system, or from manually entered variables. The administrator may add or delete any data collection. The heart of the system is an equation editor; it combines all the data collection and performs hourly emission calculations. Data collection and calculations occur automatically starting at midnight and process 24 hours of data. The system is also equipped with a limit module that alerts a designated environmental contact when a limit is exceeded. Data may be accessed through a report module, which allows the user to create custom reports. The data can be displayed to the screen or exported to EXCEL.

The beauty of this system is that it can grow as your facility grows, nothing is hard-coded, and it is web-based.

  • EMITS
The Emission Modeling and Inventory Tracking System is an Environmental Compliance Management framework. EMITS provides central user interface, data management, scheduling, and graphical reporting functions and is designed for easy expansion. Environmental programs can be incorporated into the EMITS system to meet client-specific data collection and reporting needs. Data and conditions can be shared among programs through tables in the EMITS database. The graphical reporting function uses a plot plan of the facility with building colors that indicate reported conditions. By clicking on a building, a detailed listing of all conditions reported for that building can be reviewed and printed. Notes and keywords can be attached to each data value causing a condition, and can be included in reports.

  • FRRM
The Fugitive Regulatory Reporting Module is used for reporting emission rates for compliance and permitting purposes, and for emissions inventories as required by EPA regulations and state agencies in ten states. FRRM connects with existing fugitive monitoring database systems to provide a seamless flow of monitoring results from the field to the required reports.

  • CETS
The Chemical Emissions Tracking System is a multi-user compliance reporting system that provides a method of recording and reporting chemical emissions. The system collects data on usage, emissions, and storage of hazardous chemicals by different operations within the facility. Linked to the facility's material inventory records, CETS produces reports that satisfy various requirements. In addition, the system contains a program called Watcher that warns the operator if emissions appear to be nearing an out-of-compliance situation with the air emission permit.

  • CRNS
The Chemical Release Notification System is an automatic one-call system for chemical spill reporting procedures. Using a touch tone telephone, spills are logged and phone numbers for required reporting agencies are provided. This ensures that only applicable agencies with current phone numbers are contacted during the rush to handle a spill. In addition to printed reports of logged spills, CRNS can automatically leave a voice mail description of the spill for a designated contact.

  • Custom SCADA Integration
By integrating a thermal oxidizer SCADA system with an existing emissions reporting spreadsheet, actual controlled emissions are easily reported. Continuous operating parameters for the oxidizer are captured from the SCADA system. Using predefined operating tolerances, the SCADA parameters are used to establish control efficiencies that are then applied to recorded uncontrolled emission levels. The resulting controlled emissions are then summarized by the spreadsheet for reporting to the proper agencies.
